Ron Perlman reveals spitting 16 times at Sean Connery during film shoot
Actor Ron Perlman has shared details regarding a challenging scene filmed for the 1986 movie 'The Name of the Rose'. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Perlman revealed that he had to spit in the face of his co-star, Sean Connery, 16 times to capture the scene from various cinematic angles, including close-ups and profile shots.
Perlman expressed that he initially struggled with the task because he viewed Connery as a hero. He noted that Connery personally encouraged him to complete the action, telling him that without the spit, he would have nothing to act against.
Director Jean-Jacques Annaud also noted that Connery was not the original choice for the role of William of Baskerville, but the actor secured the part after visiting the director's home to read lines from the script.
