Ronald Fuentes rejects resignation after Unión Española defeat

Unión Española technical director Ronald Fuentes has ruled out resigning following a 3-0 home defeat against Deportes Antofagasta in the 19th round of Primera B. The loss marks the team's second consecutive defeat, leading to protests from fans at the Santa Laura stadium demanding his departure.

Fuentes acknowledged the fans' frustration and accepted responsibility for the team's footballing performance, stating, “I understand the fan, I have always understood them... but I am not going to resign at all.” He emphasized that the club's goal remains qualifying for the Liguilla, noting that while direct promotion is now a distant possibility, mathematical options still exist.

Currently sitting in ninth place with 25 points, Unión Española remains outside the promotion playoff spots. Fuentes indicated that tactical changes may be necessary for their upcoming match against Puerto Montt to attempt to reverse the current slump.
