The first-degree murder trial of Ronald Joseph Campbell is nearing its conclusion in the B.C. Supreme Court in Nanaimo. Campbell was charged in 2024 in connection with the May 20, 2021, shooting death of Yasin Khan in a Wendy’s restaurant parking lot.

During closing arguments, defence lawyers Jordan Watt and Bryan McPhail argued that the Crown’s case is purely circumstantial. The defence highlighted potential flaws in eyewitness testimony, noting that observation and memory can be unreliable.

Legal counsel also raised concerns regarding three “dangerous witnesses,” whose identities remain protected under a publication ban. The defence questioned the certainty of a witness who identified Campbell in court as the individual seen in a white Cadillac Escalade involved in the 2021 incident.
