Ronaldo Barbosa receives Parintins citizenship honor

Composer and poet Ronaldo Barbosa has been awarded the Title of Parintins Citizen during a solemn session at the Parintins City Council. The honor, proposed by Councilman Azamor Pessoa, recognizes Barbosa’s significant contributions to Amazonian culture and the local identity of the municipality.

Originally from Campina Grande, Paraíba, Barbosa has spent over four decades in Parintins dedicated to the music, poetry, and culture of Boi-Bumbá Caprichoso. Throughout his career, he has composed more than 100 toadas, helping to shape the musical history of the Caprichoso group. His works frequently explore themes of the Amazon rainforest, indigenous peoples, and regional myths.

Barbosa is credited with evolving the toada genre by introducing new metrics, melodic structures, and poetic possibilities. His notable compositions include titles such as ‘Saga de um Canoeiro’, ‘Amazonas Ayakamaé’, and ‘Cobra Grande’.
