Ronaldo Caiado proposes new security and fiscal policies
Ronaldo Caiado, the PSD presidential candidate, has intensified his campaign with several key policy proposals and strategic shifts. On economic grounds, Caiado criticized President Lula's administration, alleging that trade tariff discussions are being used to distract from rising national debt. He proposed a strict fiscal adjustment, suggesting that government spending growth should be limited to 50% or 60% of the previous year's GDP growth, plus inflation.
Regarding public security, Caiado argued that Brazil must take the lead in combating organized crime rather than relying on the United States. He proposed the creation of a unified South American police force, referred to as 'Sulpol', to facilitate cross-border cooperation and information sharing. He also warned that the country is facing a 'Mexicanization' due to the influence of criminal factions.
In terms of judicial reform, Caiado advocated for a 15-year term limit for Supreme Court justices, proposing that appointments begin at age 60. His campaign also underwent a significant restructuring following the departure of strategist Paulo Vasconcelos, who left due to disagreements over the campaign's aggressive tone toward Flávio Bolsonaro. Marcos Carvalho has since assumed general leadership of the campaign's communication.
