Ronaldo Caiado proposes dissolving state-owned enterprises

Presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) has announced plans to dissolve state-owned enterprises and reduce public spending if elected. During a recent debate, the former governor of Goiás criticized the fiscal management and public security policies of the current administration under Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Caiado’s economic platform includes reviewing mandatory parliamentary amendments and revising tax incentives for various economic sectors. He stated that certain state-owned companies would be closed immediately to reduce the size of the government and improve public accounts, though he did not specify which entities would be affected. He also emphasized the need to “strangle the excesses of tax incentives that only favor certain groups.”

Regarding security, Caiado accused the current government of allowing criminal organizations, such as the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV), to expand into areas that should be under state control. Additionally, he addressed rare earth mineral negotiations, noting a memorandum aimed at attracting foreign technology and expertise from the United States to facilitate exploration and subsequent domestic commercialization.
