Ronaldo Caiado launches presidential campaign and declares R$ 52.5 million in assets
As the 2026 election cycle begins, candidates across Brazil are officially launching campaigns and filing mandatory asset declarations with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), a presidential candidate, officially launched his campaign with a religious service and a motorcade through the Entorno do Distrito Federal region. Caiado positioned himself as the primary right-wing challenger to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, emphasizing his administrative experience in Goiás. His declared assets totaled approximately R$ 52.5 million, representing a 111% increase from his 2022 declaration. His wealth is largely comprised of rural real estate (R$ 36.21 million) and livestock (R$ 10.49 million). His vice-presidential candidate and PSD president, Gilberto Kassab, declared assets of R$ 20.99 million.
Other notable asset declarations include José Luiz Datena, a candidate for Federal Deputy in São Paulo, who reported R$ 35.9 million in assets. In contrast, former athletes Marcelinho Carioca and Edmundo have declared a combined R$ 61.4 million, a figure that exceeds the wealth of several traditional political leaders.
Regional campaigns are also mobilizing, with Senate races starting in Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará, and gubernatorial contests beginning in Mato Grosso do Sul and Rio Grande do Sul.
