Ronaldo Caiado seeks new security minister after Gakiya decline

Presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) announced that prosecutor Lincoln Gakiya has declined an invitation to lead a proposed Ministry of Public Security. Gakiya, a member of the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) in São Paulo, reportedly stated that his current role as a prosecutor makes it impossible to accept the position.

Caiado indicated he will seek another candidate with a similar profile, emphasizing the need for experience and intelligence in combating organized crime.

As part of his security platform, Caiado has proposed several measures, including classifying criminal factions as domestic terrorist organizations, reducing the age of criminal responsibility to 16 for specific crimes, and increasing minimum sentences to up to 45 years. His plan also includes the construction of 40 maximum-security prisons and stricter requirements for prisoner regime progression.
