Ronaldo Nazario celebrates 50 years of football career
Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, known as ‘The Phenomenon’, is celebrating his 50th birthday. Born in the Bento Ribeiro neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro on September 18, 1976, his official registration was delayed by four days due to a clerical error by his father.
His professional career began with rapid success. After playing futsal in Rio de Janeiro, he was recruited by Cruzeiro, where he debuted in the first division at age 17 in 1993. During that debut season, he scored 20 goals in 21 matches and helped the team secure a title.
His performance earned him a spot on the Brazilian national team for the 1994 World Cup in the United States, where he was part of the squad that won the championship. Following the tournament, he moved to the Netherlands to play for PSV Eindhoven, where he recorded 57 goals in 54 matches over two seasons.
