Ronda completes new hiking trail through local ravine

A new major hiking attraction has been completed in the Ronda region of Málaga province, Spain. The Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo, a trail running through the local ravine, has entered its second phase and is nearing public opening.

Designed by Luis Machuca Santa-Cruz, the same architect behind the famous Caminito del Rey, the trail features walkways and wooden suspension bridges positioned just a few meters above the water. The project cost over one million euros and includes environmental conservation measures, such as integrated habitats for bats, fish, and otters. The construction is designed to be fully removable to leave no trace in the protected ravine.

The 800-meter trail begins at the Casa Manolillo entrance and passes beneath the historic 18th-century Puente Nuevo bridge. It traverses the Guadalevín river, passing historical sites including a 14th-century mine and a former power station, before concluding near Ronda’s ancient Arabic baths. Visitors can access audio guides in six languages via QR codes located along the path.
