Ronda completes Tajo Gorge trail with new walkway

The city of Ronda has inaugurated the completed Tajo Gorge trail, a major tourism project consisting of two phases. The project features a new 500-meter wooden walkway installed at the bottom of the gorge, running parallel to the Guadalevín river at a height of three meters. This second phase connects the base of the Puente Nuevo to the old San Miguel hermitage in the Padre Jesús neighborhood.

The total cost of the project is approximately 1.5 million euros. The first phase, which opened in April 2024, established a path from Plaza María Auxiliadora to the base of the bridge. The second phase was co-financed by the Diputación de Málaga and the Ronda City Council, with the provincial authority contributing over 1 million euros.

Designed by architect Luis Machuca, the trail allows visitors to experience the gorge from within the canyon rather than viewing it solely from the upper viewpoints. The route is approximately one kilometer long and includes renovated buildings to serve as access points and visitor centers. Local officials expect the completed itinerary to serve as a significant boost for regional tourism.
