Ronda to host inaugural Mundial del Jamón competition

The city of Ronda will host the first edition of the 'Mundial del Jamón' from September 4 to 6. Held at the Convento de Santo Domingo, the event coincides with the traditional Goyesca festivities.

Promoted by Enrique Tomás Ruiz, the competition aims to elevate Iberian ham as a global gastronomic symbol. The event features a comparative tasting between four major production origins: Guijuelo, Extremadura, Jabugo, and Valle de los Pedroches. To ensure fair comparison, all participating hams will be from the same vintage.

In an unusual format, there will be no professional jury. Instead, the public attending the tasting will vote to decide which origin earns the title of 'Best Ham in the World.' The three-day event will also include music, culture, and participation from eight livestock farmers.
