Rondônia court denies Gmail reactivation for official holding child exploitation material

A court in Rondônia, Brazil, has denied a request by a public servant from the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MP-RO) to reactivate a personal Gmail account. Google had deactivated the account and notified the Federal Police after discovering it contained material related to child sexual exploitation.

The files were reportedly part of 'Operação Sólon,' an investigation launched in 2024. The employee argued that she used her personal email and cloud storage for both private and professional purposes to assist in investigative procedures. However, the court ruled that the employee assumed a risk incompatible with her duties by using a private account to process sensitive investigation material, including feeding it into artificial intelligence tools like NotebookLM.

Judges noted that public security agencies have strict protocols prohibiting the storage of such sensitive material on third-party private clouds. The employee's request for R$ 20,000 in moral damages was also rejected. The case remains under judicial secrecy.
