Rondônia Court of Accounts warns of severe fiscal crisis

The Court of Accounts of the State of Rondônia (TCE-RO) has issued a warning to political candidates regarding the state's severe fiscal situation. During a public hearing, TCE President Wilber Coimbra presented a report detailing an “extremely worrying” financial status, noting that 2027 is expected to be an exceptionally challenging year for administration.

The report highlights that over 90% of state resources are already committed to mandatory current expenses, such as personnel costs and machine maintenance. This leaves virtually no margin for new investments or mandatory expenses in 2027 without compensatory cuts.

Structural issues were also identified across several sectors:

• Education: Significant learning losses in mathematics and a shortage of classroom teachers due to administrative reassignments and upcoming retirements. • Infrastructure: 76% of the state's road network is unpaved, the highest rate among 19 evaluated states, resulting in an estimated annual logistics cost of R$ 3.7 billion. • Public Health: The state records the second-highest infant mortality rate in the country.
