Rondônia lawmakers Jean Oliveira and Ezequiel Neiva implicated in separate corruption scandals
Jean Oliveira, a state deputy and president of the environmental commission in the Rondônia Legislative Assembly, is accused by Brazil's Federal Police of participating in a scheme that illegally occupied about 64,600 hectares in the Rio Pacaás Novos Extractive Reserve. The group allegedly planned to sell illegal deforestation credits and discussed killing State Prosecutor Matheus Carvalho Dantas, who opposed the operation. Oliveira denied wrongdoing, saying his actions were lawful, and is currently recovering from a COVID‑19 infection in São Paulo.
Ezequiel Neiva, another Rondônia state deputy, had his conviction for intentional administrative improbity upheld by the Rondônia Court of Justice. The ruling found that he authorized a R$19 million irregular payment to construction firm Ouro Verde for bridge works while serving as director of the state road department. The court determined the act was deliberate, opening the possibility of an eight‑year suspension of his political rights and jeopardizing his candidacy in the upcoming election, pending a final decision by electoral authorities.
