Rondônia offers up to 85% ICMS tax credit for imports
The state of Rondônia offers a fiscal regime that allows companies to receive a presumed tax credit of up to 85% of the ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) due on interstate sales of imported goods. Established by State Law 1.473/2005, this mechanism serves as an alternative for Brazilian companies importing products from Asian markets to reduce their tax burden.
To qualify for the benefit, companies must be formally established in Rondônia and meet specific legal requirements regarding the generation of jobs and income. Rodrigo Lopes, CEO of Global RPX Trading, notes that while the impact can be significant for high-volume operations, the actual savings depend on a case-by-case analysis that includes logistics, volume, and specific legal frameworks.
