Rondônia population reaches 1.7 million, according to IBGE

New population estimates from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reveal significant demographic trends in the state of Rondônia. The state's total population reached approximately 1,757,338 inhabitants as of 2026, marking an increase of over 5,000 people from the previous year.

Porto Velho remains the most populous city with 520,379 residents. Other major urban centers include Ji-Paraná (140,800), Vilhena (110,708), Ariquemes (109,731), and Cacoal (98,884). Vilhena maintains its position as the third most populous municipality in the state.

In contrast, Primavera de Rondônia has been identified as the least populous municipality in the state, with an estimated 3,268 inhabitants. While the town saw a 6.2% growth compared to the 2022 Census, it continues to face challenges common to small municipalities, such as maintaining public services and infrastructure due to low population density.
