Rondônia producers among finalists for National Special Cocoa Contest
Six producers from Rondônia have been named among the 20 finalists of the VIII National Special Cocoa Contest. The competition, which focuses on sustainability and quality, received a record 126 samples from 101 producers across seven Brazilian states.
Finalists are competing in two categories: Varietal, for single-variety lots, and Mixture, which combines different varieties. The selection process involved rigorous testing of physical, chemical, and sensory characteristics, as well as evaluating sustainable farming practices. Experts noted an increase in sample quality this year, with more complex flavor profiles including fruity, citrus, and floral notes.
Winners will be announced on December 5 in Ilhéus, Bahia. The contest will award a total of R$ 60,000 to the top three winners in each category. This edition also serves as an official selection process for international recognition of Brazilian cocoa.
