Rondônia’s Coffee and Cocoa Geographical Indications Join EU‑Brazil Bioeconomy Program
The Matas de Rondônia coffee and Cacau de Rondônia cocoa Geographical Indications have been selected to join the International Technical Cooperation Project “Boosting Bioeconomy: Innovation and Competitiveness in Amazon Biodiversity Product Chains.” The initiative is led by Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services together with the European Union’s Euroclima programme, and is implemented in Brazil by GIZ in partnership with Sebrae.
Only six of the 13 Amazon‑Legal Geographical Indications applied were chosen, highlighting the market potential of these two Rondônia chains. Over the next twelve months, the managing bodies CAFERON and CACAURON will receive specialised technical assistance, mentorship, market‑strategy development, communication planning and participation in business‑matching events. The goal is to strengthen institutional governance, create business and investment plans, and open national and international market opportunities. Sebrae’s technical director for Rondônia, Carlos Eduardo Sakagami, said the selection “represents a strategic opportunity to boost competitiveness.”
