Rondonópolis bridge suffers third major cable theft

The Ponte do Cais, located on Avenida Marechal Rondon over the Rio Vermelho in Rondonópolis, has been targeted by thieves for the third time in recent months. The repeated theft and vandalism of electrical wiring have caused cumulative losses to public funds exceeding R$ 90,000.

The most recent incident occurred on October 9, involving the theft of approximately 400 meters of cables and damage to the electrical support infrastructure. This follows a previous theft on September 4, where 200 meters of cables were stolen, and an earlier incident in August during the transition from overhead to underground electrical networks.

In response to the recurring issues, the Municipal Infrastructure Secretariat (Sinfra) has filed police reports and engaged the Public Security Support Cabinet (GASP). To prevent further attacks, the site is scheduled to receive security cameras through the Vigia Mais program.
