Rondonópolis implements healthy school meal program for students
The city of Rondonópolis implemented a ‘Healthy Hot Dog Day’ across its 100 municipal schools, serving over 30,500 students. The initiative, organized by the Municipal Secretariat of Education, Sport, and Leisure, aims to promote healthy eating habits and combat food selectivity among children.
Instead of traditional ultra-processed sausages, the meal featured artisanal sausages made from ground chicken breast, carrots, and beets, served with a vitamin-rich vegetable sauce. The nutritional plan was designed to include students with dietary restrictions, providing gluten-free bread and wheat-free sausage versions for those with allergies or lactose intolerance.
The program is part of a broader ‘Special School Feeding Days’ calendar, which includes eight themed nutritional editions throughout the year, such as healthy versions of pizza, burgers, and lasagna. Nutritionists supervise the quality and distribution of ingredients across the school network to ensure food safety and nutritional standards.
