Rondonópolis spends 4.5 million reais cleaning illegal waste piles

The municipality of Rondonópolis, Brazil, spent roughly R$ 4.5 million over an 11‑month period (July 2025 – June 2026) to remove and properly dispose of illegal waste deposits created by residents. The operation covered extraction, site cleaning, transport and final disposal at a sanitary landfill.

Environment Secretary Álvaro Fachim said the city mapped the dump sites to monitor and eliminate the practice, while Mayor Cláudio Ferreira extended Ecoponto operating hours to 06:00‑18:00 daily, including weekends. Four Ecopontos now serve the neighborhoods of Residencial Paiaguás, Vila Paulista, Rodovia do Peixe and Vila Operária, accepting furniture, appliances, construction debris, garden waste and recyclable materials. Officials warned the expense could be avoided if citizens used these points for proper disposal.
