Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant hit by fire in server room

A major fire broke out late Monday night at the Paonier Base of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Ishwardi, Pabna. The blaze originated in the server room of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) around 3:00 AM, quickly spreading to adjacent rooms.

The fire caused significant damage to computers, air conditioning units, important documents, electrical equipment, and various internet server components. Four units from the Ishwardi Fire Service responded to the scene and worked for an extended period to bring the flames under control.

Following the incident, electricity and internet services were disconnected across several key areas, including the Paonier Base, the Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL) offices, the customs building, and the canteen. The lack of electricity also led to water shortages, causing difficulties for workers on-site. As of Wednesday morning, internet connectivity had not yet been fully restored to all critical installations, disrupting normal project operations.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit, though a full investigation is required to confirm the exact cause.
