Roosevelt Hospital performs rare cross-transplantation in Slovakia
Specialists at the F. D. Roosevelt University Hospital in Banská Bystrica have successfully completed a cross-kidney transplant involving two married couples. This medical achievement marks the first time such a procedure has been performed at the facility since 2009.
In the procedure, the spouses were not compatible donors for their own partners, but they were compatible with members of the other couple. Zuzana Betáková donated a kidney to Paulína Červeňanová, while Rudolf Červeňan donated a kidney to Vladimír Beták.
The kidneys were harvested using robotically assisted methods, a technique utilized by Roosevelt Hospital as the only center in Slovakia for living donor organ procurement. All four individuals involved are reported to be in good health following the operation.
