Roots documentary explores Bali's history and Walter Spies

The documentary film tour "Roots– One Hundred Years Walter Spies in Bali," directed by Michael Schindhelm, has concluded its screenings in Bandung, Bogor, and Jakarta. The 105-minute film utilizes historical photo archives and footage from the World War I and II eras to examine the impact of Walter Spies on Balinese art and tourism.

Project Manager Yudha Bantono stated that the film aims to open a dialogue regarding the changing landscape of Bali, addressing colonial impacts, cultural power dynamics, and the consequences of mass tourism. The tour included screenings at various strategic locations, such as Taman Ismail Marzuki and Galeri Cemara 6.
