RootsAction and Progressive Democrats urge Ro Khanna and AOC to run in 2028

RootsAction and the Progressive Democrats of America have announced a joint campaign to urge Representatives Ro Khanna and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to run for president in 2028. The initiative is set to launch following the November midterm elections.

The campaign follows critiques of the Democratic Party establishment by progressive groups. RootsAction, which has historically supported Bernie Sanders, argues that the party's internal processes often favor establishment candidates over populist outsiders who connect with voter anxieties. The announcement follows discussions regarding the 2024 election and the perceived failure of the party to mobilize activists through an open primary process.
