Roraima water levels drop amid drought in Brazil

The Branco River level in Boa Vista, Roraima, dropped 15 centimeters between October 12 and 19, according to the Roraima Water and Sewage Company (Caer). This decline, part of a broader dry season, has reduced water pressure and increased the strain on pumping systems.

In Caracaraí, the river level fell by 26 centimeters during the same period. The region has been under a state of emergency since September 2, 2026, due to significantly below-average rainfall. In August 2026, precipitation was only approximately 28% of the expected volume for the region.

To mitigate the impact of the drought, Caer has implemented a contingency plan that includes the use of water trucks and the development of new wells to maintain supply.
