Rory McIlroy returns to PGA Tour seeking historic FedExCup title
Rory McIlroy has returned to professional competition following an extended hiatus spent vacationing in the Greek Islands. After securing consecutive Masters titles in 2025 and 2026 and rising to second in the world rankings, the Northern Irish golfer utilized the break to address mental exhaustion caused by the constant pressure of professional sports.
McIlroy is currently pursuing a historic fourth FedExCup title in Memphis, which would make him the only player in PGA Tour history to achieve such a feat, following his previous wins in 2016, 2019, and 2022.
As part of his preparation, McIlroy has adopted a specific training methodology to refine his swing. This approach involves practicing in an indoor studio while intentionally ignoring ball flight to prevent the brain from reverting to old movement patterns. He focuses exclusively on mastering new mechanics before transitioning back to the driving range or the course.
