Rosa Icela Rodríguez calls for budget austerity from INE and Judiciary

Mexico's Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, has called for budget prudence regarding the 2027 fiscal year, specifically targeting autonomous bodies such as the National Electoral Institute (INE) and the Judiciary.

Rodríguez emphasized that austerity measures must extend beyond the Executive and Legislative branches to include all autonomous institutions. She stated that while the government respects their autonomy, there must be prudence regarding excessive resource requests. The Secretary noted that discussions regarding this stance have already taken place with electoral council members.

Regarding personnel, Rodríguez indicated that while progressive salary increases for workers may be considered if budgeted, no increases are planned for high-ranking officials, as they must also adhere to austerity protocols. The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) will ultimately determine and announce the specific amounts allocated to each sector.
