Rosalía discusses her new album ‘Lux’ and musical inspirations

Spanish pop artist Rosalía has completed a global tour for her latest album, ‘Lux’. The project explores themes of female saints and mystics throughout history, including figures such as Olga of Kyiv.

In an interview at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House, the 34-year-old singer discussed her desire to deviate from typical pop formulas. Her track ‘Berghain’ features operatic vocals and an appearance by Björk, drawing inspiration from the 12th-century mystic Hildegard of Bingen. The album is notable for its linguistic diversity, with lyrics written in 14 different languages, including Japanese, Ukrainian, Catalan, and Arabic, which Rosalía describes as a ‘search for communion’.

The tour was noted for its physical and technical demands, involving performances en pointe. The anticipation for the album was significant enough to cause traffic delays in Madrid during its announcement countdown.
