Rosalía controversy leads to concert cancellation in Córdoba

After Argentina lost the 2026 World Cup final to Spain, Spanish singer Rosalía reposted a TikTok video featuring influencer Mia Khalifa celebrating the Spanish victory with the lyric “how does life sound now that the pearls were defeated.” Argentine fans interpreted the post as a mockery of their national team. The backlash generated thousands of hate‑filled messages, boycott campaigns and requests for refunds for Rosalía’s four scheduled shows in Buenos Aires.

Rosalía removed the video and issued a public apology on Instagram, writing “Mala mía, perdón” and expressing love for Argentina. Nevertheless, the pressure forced the organizers of a tribute symphonic concert in Córdoba – “Rosalía en Concierto – Ensamble Sinfónico” – to cancel the event, citing “numerous messages of hate and anger” and concerns for the safety of artists and the public.

The controversy sparked comments from other Argentine public figures, some defending the singer and others urging boycotts. Media outlets also noted that the incident could affect Spain’s cultural image in Latin America.
