Rosalie Thomass presents film adaptation of Lies About My Mother in Wels

German actress and screenwriter Rosalie Thomass presented her film “Lügen über meine Mutter” (Lies About My Mother) at the Star Movie cinema in Wels, Austria. The film is an adaptation of Daniela Dröscher’s bestselling novel of the same name.

Set in the 1980s, the drama explores societal beauty standards, the pressure placed on women, and the often-unseen labor performed by mothers. The story follows Cornelia, a woman struggling with her husband’s body-shaming and the domestic expectations of provincial life. Thomass, who also wrote the screenplay, described the film as a “monument” to the invisible work women perform in childcare and household organization.

Following the screening, Thomass engaged with the audience to discuss the structural issues and societal pressures depicted in the film, emphasizing the importance of resisting the oppression of women.
