Rosalie Thomass stars in film adaptation ‘Lügen über meine Mutter’
The film ‘Lügen über meine Mutter’ (Lies About My Mother), based on the bestseller by Daniela Dröscher, is scheduled for release in German cinemas on October 8, 2026. Directed by Aron Lehmann and co-written by actress Rosalie Thomass, the story is set in a small West German town during the 1980s.
The narrative follows a family dynamic where a father, Werner, blames his wife Cornelia’s weight for his own professional and social failures. The film explores themes of female body control, rigid gender roles, and the societal pressures placed on women to maintain certain appearances.
Rosalie Thomass, who portrays the mother Cornelia, noted that the screenplay drew from personal reflections on how society limits the potential of women through beauty ideals and diet culture. To explore the boundaries of visual expectations, Thomass also physically gained weight for the role.
