Rosario: Former football supporter Juan José Gómez shot dead
Juan José Gómez, known as “Juancito” or “Jota Jota,” was shot and killed on Wednesday night in the Itatí neighborhood of Rosario, Argentina. The 26-year-old was a former member of the Rosario Central “barra brava” (supporter group) who had recently been seen supporting the rival club, Newell’s Old Boys.
The attack occurred around 11:00 PM near Garibaldi street. Witnesses reported that attackers in a moving grey Peugeot 208 opened fire at close range. Police recovered at least five shell casings at the scene. Gómez was rushed to the Hospital de Emergencias Clemente Álvarez (HECA), where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Gómez had a criminal record and had recently been released from prison following involvement in a case involving public intimidation and weapons abuse. Investigators are looking into whether the killing was a targeted retaliation linked to shifting loyalties and power struggles between football fan factions in the region.
