Rosario Pastore, veteran journalist of Maradona-era Napoli, dies at 86
Renowned Italian sports journalist Rosario Pastore has died at the age of 86. A prominent figure in Neapolitan journalism, Pastore enjoyed a career spanning over 50 years.
Pastore held significant roles at various outlets, including Momento Sera in Rome, the Rai sports editorial office in Naples, and La Notte in Milan. He is most notably recognized for his 40-year tenure at La Gazzetta dello Sport, where he closely covered SSC Napoli. He was a primary chronicler of the club’s golden era, documenting the team’s two historic league titles during the late 1980s and early 1990s under the leadership of Diego Armando Maradona.
Following his passing, SSC Napoli and its president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, expressed their condolences. Writer Maurizio De Giovanni also paid tribute to Pastore, describing him as an “immense Maestro.”
