Rosario politicians propose replacing Che Guevara tributes

The political party La Libertad Avanza has introduced several projects in the Rosario Municipal Council aimed at changing tributes to Che Guevara in public spaces. The proposals seek to rename various locations and replace existing imagery to reflect different values.

One initiative proposes renaming Plaza del Che Guevara to Plaza Jorge Mario Bergoglio in honor of Pope Francis. Additionally, a proposal seeks to rename the Ernesto “Che” Guevara viaduct to honor the physician René Favaloro. Another project suggests replacing the image of Che Guevara in a mural at Plaza de la Cooperación with a representation of author Jorge Luis Borges.

National Deputy Romina Diez supported the measures, stating they are part of a “cultural battle” to ensure public spaces honor figures who contribute to science, culture, medicine, and solidarity rather than political leaders.
