Rosatom addresses Paks II. progress and future dialogue

Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev stated in Vienna that the Paks II. nuclear power plant project is designed to operate safely even under hydrological conditions more severe than the recent drought-induced low water levels of the Danube.

Construction is progressing, with the foundation slab for the fifth block nearly complete and work on the sixth block beginning. Likhachev noted that the project involves significant participation from local and European companies, including the preparation of French-made turbines.

Addressing the current political climate, Likhachev acknowledged that the Hungarian government is reconsidering the project. He expressed Rosatom’s readiness for dialogue at expert, leadership, and governmental levels to discuss the future structure of the work. He emphasized that Rosatom’s technical foundations and experience make them uniquely capable of building a safe and energy-efficient plant in Hungary.
