Rosatom expands maritime and social initiatives
Rosatom is advancing both strategic maritime logistics and international social inclusion programs. In the Arctic, Vladimir Panov, Director of the Northern Sea Route and Arctic Development, announced that regular year-round cargo shipments via the Northern Sea Route are expected to begin by early 2027. This development aims to facilitate consistent transport to Asia, supported by increased activities from companies like Novatek and Rosneft. To bolster this infrastructure, a new nuclear icebreaker, ‘Chukotka’, is scheduled for service early next year, bringing the total nuclear icebreaker fleet to nine.
Simultaneously, the ‘Sails of the Soul 2026: Extrability Movement’ international project has completed its Turkish stage. Supported by Rosatom, the initiative brought together participants from nine countries, including Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Germany, and Egypt, to promote the social and sporting inclusion of individuals with disabilities. The program featured conferences in Trabzon, sailing activities covering approximately 360 nautical miles from Marmaris to Antalya, and an ‘Extrability Festival’ in Taşucu, Mersin.
