Rosatom pledges support for African women in nuclear technology

The Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom, has committed to supporting women across Africa in the nuclear technology sector. During the Russia–Africa Women’s Nuclear Forum 2026 held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the corporation pledged to provide professional training, mentorship, and capacity-building programs to increase female participation in science, engineering, and innovation.

Aleksandra Ryabykh, head of the Rosatom Women's Community, noted that women currently make up 33 percent of Rosatom's workforce, which is 10 percent above the global average. The forum brought together experts from eight countries, including Tanzania, Russia, Egypt, Uganda, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, and South Africa, to discuss how nuclear technology can drive socio-economic development through healthcare, agriculture, and energy production.

Professor Najat Mohammed, Director General of the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC), emphasized that advancing the sector requires significant investment in infrastructure and skilled professionals. The discussions highlighted the need to shift public perception of nuclear technology away from military associations toward its beneficial applications in industrial and scientific research.
