Rose Mbithe and children charged with murder of psychiatrist

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved murder charges against politician Rose Mbithe Ndeti and her two children, advocates Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, in connection with the killing of psychiatrist Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.

Dr. Mutiso, a former Director of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health, was fatally shot in Nairobi on July 29, 2026. Preliminary investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) suggest the killing was linked to a long-standing land dispute in the Mlolongo area that was pending before a court in Machakos.

Prior to the fatal incident, Dr. Mutiso had reported an attempted attack involving two armed individuals on a motorcycle. Following the conclusion of the DCI's probe, the prosecution registered the murder case at the Nairobi High Court. At least five suspects are currently being held by police, including a police officer and a motorcycle rider, as investigations continue.
