Rose Villa encroaches on National Museum of History land in Hanoi

An inspection by the Government Inspectorate has revealed that a six-story villa known as Rose Villa, located at 23 Tong Dan in Hanoi, has encroached upon approximately 80 square meters of land belonging to the National Museum of History.

The property, which covers a total area of over 300 square meters, was reportedly used as a residence by two former directors of the museum. The inspection findings indicate that although the museum reclaimed the 80 square meters in 2007, the family of Dang Quoc Thang—the son of former museum director Dang Xuan Thieu—removed a dividing wall in early 2009 to occupy the space.

Despite the encroachment, the villa was granted a land use certificate and subsequent construction permits. The issue has prevented the National Museum of History from receiving its own land use certificate for its premises. The land in question was originally owned by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and was allegedly sold under Government Decree 61 of 1994.
