Rosebank oil field faces political scrutiny over climate and energy policy
The Rosebank oil field, located 80 miles northwest of Shetland in the North Atlantic, has become a focal point of national debate regarding climate change, energy policy, and economic interests. The project is currently awaiting a production decision from UK Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh.
Rosebank is expected to be larger than the recently approved Jackdaw gas field, though it is also projected to generate higher greenhouse gas emissions. The field is owned by Adura and Ithaca, with the Petrojarl Rosebank—a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) chartered from Aberdeen-based Altera—moored on-site awaiting government consent.
