Rosenauer cycle path connects Czech and Bavarian Šumava

A new section of the Rosenauer cycle path has been opened, strategically connecting the Czech Republic and Bavaria within the Šumava region. Although the newly completed segment is less than half a kilometer long, it serves as a vital link between the Czech side near the Rosenauer monument and the Bavarian network near Haidmühle.

The path follows the historic Schwarzenberg Canal, a route often described as the longest flat stretch in the Šumava mountains. By completing this connection, the trail now extends through three countries: the Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria.

Pavel Hubený, director of the Šumava National Park, noted that while the physical connection may seem small, it is significant for regional mobility and helps visitors perceive the Šumava mountain range as a single, unified landscape without borders. The Czech portion of the project involved constructing or expanding approximately 400 meters of the route.
