Roseto degli Abruzzi launches plan to combat pine turtle scale

The administration of Roseto degli Abruzzi has launched an operational plan to combat the spread of Toumeyella parvicornis, commonly known as the pine turtle scale. This parasite poses a serious threat to the pine trees that define the landscape of the Abruzzo coast.

Following a technical meeting involving the municipal technical office, the local agronomist, and representatives from CONALPA (Coordinamento Nazionale Alberi e Paesaggio), officials established initial lines of action. These include a detailed survey and monitoring of local pine trees to assess the extent of the infestation and determine the most effective intervention methods.

Local authorities are also studying successful strategies implemented by neighboring coastal municipalities, such as Pineto, which has already begun treatment programs following agronomic monitoring. The goal is to establish an operational protocol that complies with regional phytosanitary regulations, focusing on pine groves, roadside greenery, and high-value environmental specimens. The administration is also considering extending treatments to trees in private gardens.
