Rosewood Band performs life education concert in Puli
The Rosewood Band, founded by emergency room physician Su Shih-yang, held a performance at the Puli Arts and Cultural Center in Nantou County on August 22. The band, established in 2006 by the Tainan Municipal Hospital doctor, uses original music to share stories of life, death, and human emotion witnessed in emergency rooms and hospice wards.
The band’s name is a homophone for rosewood, the material used for acoustic instruments, symbolizing their musical roots. The name also represents the beauty of life through the rose and the inevitability of death through the tomb, encouraging audiences to cherish the present.
With over 140 original songs and nearly 500 performances, the group focuses on life education through music. They have toured schools and communities across Taiwan to promote values such as family, health, and the pursuit of dreams. The band was recognized with the 2024 National Social Education Contribution Award for their long-term commitment to these educational tours.
