Roshena Campbell named top Liberal candidate for Melbourne's western region

Melbourne Deputy Lord Mayor Roshena Campbell has been selected as the No. 1 candidate on the Liberal Party's upper‑house ticket for the Western Metropolitan Region, replacing former MP Moira Deeming. The party's state executive voted 12‑7 in her favour, positioning her to likely win a seat in Victoria's November state election.

Campbell's appointment has drawn criticism because she resides in the inner‑north suburb of Brunswick, outside the western electorate. One Nation defector and Brimbank deputy mayor Maria Kerr described the move as a “slap in the face” to western residents, arguing the party has lost touch with the area. Campbell previously contested the federal seat of Aston and sought preselection for Casey. Polling director Kos Samaras says Campbell should secure the seat, but the Liberals' chances of winning a second upper‑house seat in the region, and incumbent Trung Luu's political future, remain uncertain.
