Rosignano, Italy: Worker Killed in Fall at Metalworking Plant

A 30‑year‑old foreign worker died on the morning of 2 May 2024 after falling about six metres onto machinery while conducting a rooftop inspection at a metalworking company in Rosignano Marittimo, Livorno province, Tuscany. Emergency services, fire crews and police arrived quickly, but the victim could not be saved.

The incident is the second fatal workplace accident in Tuscany within a week, following a similar death in Altopascio a few days earlier. Trade unions, including Fiom‑CGIL and Cisl Toscana, expressed deep sorrow and called for stronger inspections, more safety inspectors, and higher penalties for violations. They demanded a thorough investigation to clarify the causes.

Regional authorities, including President Eugenio Giani and Labour Minister Alberto Lenzi, reaffirmed their commitment to improve occupational safety, citing a two‑million‑euro allocation for additional safety training and the promotion of robotic and artificial‑intelligence solutions to reduce high‑risk tasks.
