Rosmah Mansor solar corruption appeal begins in Court of Appeal

The Court of Appeal has commenced hearings for Rosmah Mansor’s appeal against her conviction and sentence in a solar hybrid project corruption case. The appeal process is scheduled to take place over 16 days throughout September, specifically on the 1st to 4th, 8th to 11th, and 21st to 30th.

Rosmah Mansor was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined RM970 million after being found guilty of three corruption charges related to a RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project intended for 369 rural schools in Sarawak. The fine consists of RM937.5 million for the first charge, RM7.5 million for the second, and RM25 million for the third.

The proceedings follow several delays. Previous postponements were granted due to legal challenges regarding the validity of the former prosecutor’s appointment and attempts to disqualify the original presiding judge, Datuk Mohamed Zaini Mazlan, who now serves as a Court of Appeal judge. The three-judge panel, led by Datuk Azhahari Kamal Ramli, has emphasized that no further postponements will be permitted given the duration of the case since 2022.
