RoSPA warns parents of safety risks in infant products

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has issued warnings to parents regarding ‘hidden dangers’ in certain infant feeding and sleep products. Experts caution that items marketed as ‘must-have’ can increase the risk of suffocation, choking, and overheating.

Specific products identified as potentially hazardous include self-feeding cushions, also known as hands-free baby bottle holders, which may make it difficult for infants to control milk flow and increase choking risks. Additionally, RoSPA warned against baby sleep positioners, such as cuddle cushions or anti-roll pillows, noting that restricting movement or adding items to a sleep space can be dangerous.

Rebecca Guy, senior policy manager at RoSPA, advised that the safest sleep environments are often the simplest, consisting of a clear cot or bassinet with a firm, flat mattress. The organization noted that safety concerns have already led to the recall of several infant products.
