Ross Fire burns 90,000 acres in North Texas

The Ross Fire, the second-largest wildfire in North Texas history, has burned more than 90,000 acres across Palo Pinto and Jack counties. The blaze, which began near U.S. Highway 180, has resulted in the destruction of at least 157 structures, including dozens of homes, and the loss of approximately 100 head of cattle.

Investigators from the Texas A&M Forest Service have determined that the fire was human-caused, likely originating from equipment use associated with a tire blowout on Highway 180.

As of recent updates, containment levels have reached between 31% and 38%. Firefighting crews are focusing on recovery efforts and addressing the southern, western, and northern boundaries near Possum Kingdom Lake. The fire follows a period of record-breaking drought and extreme heat in the region.
